The unrestricted gift will enable the Foundation to further its efforts in access to music education for young people across the U.S.

New York, New York – June 15, 2021 – Save The Music Foundation today announced author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott provided an unrestricted donation to the organization. The nonprofit is one of 286 high-impact organizations that received a donation for its work in combating racial discrimination.

Scott announced the donation today in a Medium op-ed in which she specifically called out how “arts and cultural institutions can strengthen communities by transforming spaces, fostering empathy, reflecting community identity, advancing economic mobility, improving academic outcomes, lowering crime rates, and improving mental health.”

Save The Music will put its donation toward furthering the organization’s efforts to provide access to music education to every young person in America.

“We are deeply honored to be a recipient of these funds and to be part of this group of impactful organizations, including many of our music education partners across the country,” said Henry Donahue, Executive Director of Save The Music. “The donors have put real care and diligence into recognizing people who are building community through the arts. This gift energizes our efforts to show that music education saves lives and will accelerate our investments in our partner communities.”
