President of MTV Entertainment, ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks

Chris McCarthy is the President of MTV Entertainment, ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks overseeing MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, Smithsonian Channel, Pop TV, CMT, VH1, TV Land and Logo Media and their respective content studios. He assumed the title in November 2019 shortly after the ViacomCBS merger.

Known for his successful track record in transforming businesses and creating content that shapes pop culture, McCarthy had been President of MTV since October 2016, during which time he rapidly restored the global youth brand to #1 with young audiences, reaching more people across cable, social, streaming and events than any other brand.

Prior to MTV, McCarthy led VH1’s reinvention in 2015, driving it to record growth, including eight of the top 10 and 15 of the top 25 shows among p18-34 viewers. McCarthy credits his success to strong leaders and collaborative teams who embrace the belief that “creativity drives everything we do.”

McCarthy joined Viacom in 2004 as a freelancer and rose up the ranks holding various positions of responsibility from marketing, strategy, operations and development.

The recipient of multiple Emmy® Awards and a Peabody®, McCarthy earned an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University.

He is a member of the Peabody Awards Board of Directors.
